Tomorrow I start living on a food stamp budget, $4.72 a day for the San Francisco Food Bank Hunger challenge. I went to Rainbow Grocery today (after extensive price and nutrition research) and bought what I think I’ll need for the week. I’ll be calculating the per meal cost of my food in order to understand exactly how much I’m spending and on what.
I’m excited and nervous. I deeply passionate about food - origins, growing conditions, cooking methods, etc and it has been a while since I’ve had to be hyper-aware of my food budget. Even in college my budget was around $60/week, so this experience will very much be a challenge.
